The author's writting style had me chuckling and entertained while he tought me some interesting hard earned lessons.
One of the best free e-books I have read, it had me wanting more.
The content here is awesome -- very creatively told stories and a surprising amount of parable-like teaching while they're at it. My only complaint the author'sconversion to kindle ruined the formatting for pictures, running captions together into a jumbled block of unreadable text.
After over 20 yrs as an Active Duty family we bought our own "Little House on the Prairie" farm. I could relate to so many of the things he wrote about, and picked up a few tips as well.
There were some formatting issues on kindle, specifically picture pages had small half-page sized pictures and then the next page would have a 6 word sentence describing the picture, followed by a blank page. I also had "skips" where i'd flip pages and the next would be blank, to fix i just went back 2 pages and the screen would sort of "deja vu" on me and the same page would appear twice; then i could go forward and the skipped page would be there...aside from the kindle issues the book was quite fantastic with a lot of great tips and ideas (i bookmarked the crap out of it!)...be forewarned that this isn't an how-to for beginners, some knowledge of gardening is required. If you are interested in organic gardening...get this book, you won't be disappointed. The only disappointed i personally found was lack of humor, other reviewers talked about laugh out loud moments...i had none, then again i am 26 and the author is 65+ so perhaps it's just a cultural age group and i didn't "get it"...that aside it was still fantastic, i rate it 6 out of 5 stars.
The best funny gardening book I have read. Have ordered it for friends and family members and they too love it.
Ed Back has definitely been there and done that, as you can tell from his entertaining and interesting stories from the farm.
I have not read all of the book yet but I have enjoyed what I have read. My husband and I also left our home in the city and moved to 13 acres and a mobe. We are retired and do not plan to build a dream home but we are remodeling our mobe. We have chickens, goats, rabbits, guineas, dogs and a cat. Your book is sooo funny.
This is a book to sit back, relax, and just enjoy. Along the way, you will find a lot of good, practical advice hidden in its pages. The writing is so entertaining that even non-gardeners might enjoy it. If your goal is to get quick (emphasis on quick) gardening hints and tips, this book is probably not for you. As for me, I am thoroughly enjoying this and am getting quite a few chuckles out of it.
By the way, I am neither family nor friend to the author nor a shill reviewer like one reviewer suggests if you give this book 5 stars. Just my honest opinion. True, the photo captions are jumbled up in the version, but I really don't want to degrade the book for something that minor.
